Technology in the Classroom

My school is a technology magnet school, we are always looking for new ways to use technology in the classroom. This year we are using two new sites with the students. I thought I would share them and see what everyone else uses in their classroom.

Each class has a blog from the site Kidblog.  It is great! Teachers can post questions or assignments and students are able to go on post their response. All student post are not made public until you approve them. We just started using the site and I used it to ask an intro question for our Native American Unit in 5th grade. If you have used this site I would love to hear how you use the site with your students. 

The second site I am using this year is Youngzine. This site has current news stories for kids. It is great to use for non-fiction reading text!

Narrative Elements Rap!

I had to share this. We are studying narrative elements for the next two weeks and a teacher on my team found this awesome rap. My students really liked it and were singing along by the end. Enjoy!

13 Colonies Project

This past year my 5th grade class studied the 13 Colonies and then completed a power point for one of the colonies they chose. Research was done in class over a three week period. The majority of the power point was put together in technology class. Below are the directions that were given for the project.

The students were also required to complete the online game called Mission US - For Crown or Colony? This is an online video game where you play as a kid living in one of the colonies during the Revolutionary War. My students loved this game! I had a few reset it to play it again when the completed it.

Glogsters In the Classroom

My students have use glogsters twice this year. It is a website you can use for students to create their own website. My 4th graders used it to create pages about their Florida city. 5th grade used the page for their Black History Month biographies. This is the link to the site, Glogster EDU

Florida Cities Project - 4th Grade

At the end of 4th grade the students complete the Florida Cities Project. Each group chooses a city in Florida for their travel agency. The students are responsible for creating a poster, brochure and glogster. (Glogster links are found below) Students use each of these items to persuade visitors to travel to their city.

This project is a lot of fun and a great way to wrap up all we have learned about Florida throughout the year. On the last day we invite the 3rd graders, 5th graders, and parents to come see our travel agencies. Our visitors also vote for the most persuasive city. Check out a few of our cities!
